Program Notes
Flutter (2024) sonically explores the titular verb through a multitude of lenses: the metaphorical fluttering of one's heart when seeing a person they love; the feeling of excitement or nervousness in one's stomach during an intense situation; and the gesture of the wings of a butterfly. The tenor saxophone and horn flutter musically together and apart, chasing and echoing, debating and conversing throughout the piece. Many thanks to Bryan for commissioning Flutter and to he and Katherine for premiering this work.
