Oboe & Piano Consortium
Jeremiah Quarles (Western Michigan University) leads the consortium for a new work for oboe and piano by Gala Flagello. The piece will be 5–7 minutes in length and will explore both the pastoral and tempestuous, taking inspiration from naturalist John Muir's writing in The Yosemite: "Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike." This work will focus on lyrical writing for the oboe as well as the virtuosic potential of the instrument in a recital context. While the oboe will be specially featured throughout, the piano and oboe will interact intricately, creating a fluid, affecting soundworld where the performers will sing and soar.
