Program Notes
Monochrome Metronome (2025) celebrates the vivid color and shifting texture unique to brass quintet. Through a lens of relentless forward motion—from skittering and playful to churning and powerful—the piece sonically depicts subtle variations of shades within a single color (tempo), highlighting each member of the quintet as they journey through a prism of different energetic landscapes. Groupings of two and three drive the ensemble metrically, rhythmically, and orchestrationally, enveloping listeners in the rich, tender, daring, and vibrant tints and tones that brass has to offer.
